The Spirit of Letters October 2026 features new works on Augustine, AI, and personal crisis

The October 2026 edition of The Spirit of Letters includes several new publications. Pierre Descotes examines the influence of the Confessions of Saint Augustine in Des coeurs sans repos: Les Confessions de saint Augustin, d’André Gide à Emmanuel Carrère, published by Cerf. The work analyzes how modern writers engage with the Augustinian invention of confession, desire, and truth.

Thierry Magnin addresses the implications of artificial intelligence in La parole désincarnée - Quelle sagesse chrétienne à l’heure de l’IA?, published by DDB. Magnin explores how technology affects human relationships, freedom, and truth, specifically questioning whether disembodied speech can possess authority or transform lives.

François-Xavier Maigre provides a personal account of life transitions, including the loss of a colleague, the end of his journalism career, and the betrayal of a spiritual mentor.
