António Lucena warns of hidden domestic violence in the Diocese of Lamego

António Lucena, president of the Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission of Lamego, stated that much domestic violence remains hidden within the territory. Speaking to Agência Ecclesia, Lucena noted that the commission previously held a conference on the subject in 2019 to provide tools for the Church's social action. He said the commission works through priests and social assistance institutions and associations that are close to local communities.

Lucena described the commission's role as primarily formative, using communications and conferences to address detected needs. He also identified desertification as one of the most urgent political issues facing the diocese. He noted that the situation in Lamego differs from the housing crises and protests seen in large urban centers like Porto and Lisbon.
