Mount Melleray comes alive again: a day of faith, crowds and new beginnings

Thousands of people gathered at Mount Melleray Abbey on September 20 to attend a Mass marking a new chapter for the site. The large crowd filled the central nave and side sections of the church, with additional seating placed along the arched corridors and near the smaller chapel. Some attendees stood outside to follow the liturgy via a speaker.

The gathering included students from Ave Maria University, who are scheduled to live at Mount Melleray for the coming months. The event follows a period of uncertainty for the abbey, which underwent renovations after local clergy expressed hope for its future last year.
