Paróquia Nossa Senhora das Mercês celebrates the feast of the patron saint

Our Lady of Mercies Parish, the Capuchin Church, is holding celebrations for its patron saint through September 24. The festivities include novenas, blessings, a car caravan, and community gatherings.

The novena runs from September 15 to September 23 at 19:00, focusing on the theme of Mary as a promoter of communion and peace. On September 24, the liturgical feast day, the parish scheduled a celebration and the coronation of Our Lady at 19:00. Weekend activities include a neighborhood car caravan, a pastel night, and a traditional church barbecue.

The devotion to Our Lady of Mercies originated in the 13th century in Spain. According to the Diocese of Curitiba, the devotion began after Saint Peter Nolasco sought to ransom Christian captives. This led to the official founding of the Order of Our Lady of Mercies in 1218.
