The book explores the vocation of laypeople to participate in the roles of priest, prophet, and king of Christ. The text examines how God shares himself with humanity and invites people to be collaborators in his work.

Specific themes include how God loves, the transformative nature of divine adoption, and the role of suffering. It also addresses how to live a life of prayer, how to proclaim Christ in a secularized world, and how to be both rulers and servants.
