Cantabria Parliament approves law on teacher authority and school coexistence
First source report
The Parliament of Cantabria approved the Proyecto de Ley de Autoridad del Profesorado y de la Convivencia Escolar last Monday. The law regulates how to respond to bullying, including harassment against teachers.
José Luis Castellano, vice president of CONCAPA, said the measure is absolutely necessary. He stated that the figure of the teacher has been completely degraded socially in Spain and that the LOMLOE has worsened this situation. Castellano noted that parents have diluted respect for the authority of the teacher.
The Teaching Workers Union (STE) reported that eight out of ten teachers in public schools find the classroom climate conflictive and perceive an increase in verbal and physical aggression from students. These aggressions occur at all levels, including in concertado schools.
