Italian associations form network to support children with pediatric cancer
First source report
The Federazione Italiana Associazioni Genitori e Guariti Oncoematologia Pediatrica (FIAGOP) has launched a national support network to improve the quality of life for children and adolescents with cancer and their families. The initiative aims to reduce treatment inequalities and disparities across Italy. FIAGOP partnered with four regional associations: AGAL in Pavia, Noi per Loro in Parma, Noi per Voi in Florence, and ASLTI in Palermo.
The project, titled “Insieme per crescere. Strategie per lo sviluppo degli interventi delle associazioni di oncoematologia pediatrica italiane,” concludes its 23-month term with results presented at a conference in Florence. Funded by the Fondo del Ministero del Lavoro e delle Politiche Sociali, the project began in 2024 and focused on sharing best practices, training, and creating digital tools.
The network includes a centralized online platform to provide families with information on care, legal rights, work, school, and emotional support, as well as a dedicated space for adolescents. The project also developed online and in-person training programs for approximately 110 volunteers, employees, and board members.
