Solemnity of All Saints celebrates the vocation to holiness

The Diocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro marked the Solemnity of All Saints, a day intended to invite the faithful to meditate on the divine life. The celebration honors both the saints officially recognized by the Church and the unnamed multitude of baptized people from all nations and eras who enjoy divine glory.

The Church teaches that holiness is the purpose of Christian life and is achieved by imprinting Christ upon oneself. While holiness requires constant effort, it is considered a gift from God rather than a purely human achievement. This call to holiness in the modern world was detailed by Pope Francis in his apostolic exhortation Gaudete et exsultate.
