All Saints and Commemoration of the Faithful Departed

Bishop Josep-Lluís of Urgell explained the distinct meanings of the consecutive liturgical days of All Saints on November 1 and the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed on November 2.

The November 1 feast celebrates all people who have attained eternal life with God. This includes officially recognized saints and anonymous men and women who lived the Gospel through daily acts of mercy, peace, and justice.

The November 2 observance directs focus toward the deceased. It serves as a time for the faithful to remember specific names, express gratitude for shared lives, and pray for the eternal rest of the departed.
