Vatican secretary of state reiterates support for 2-state solution at UN General Assembly
First source report
Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican secretary of state, told world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 24 that a two-state solution is the only viable path to a lasting peace in the Middle East. Speaking at high-level meetings in New York, Parolin stated that this solution must be based on secure and internationally recognized borders to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The proposed peace plan seeks to establish two independent countries: Israel as a homeland for the Jewish people, and Palestine for the Palestinian people, encompassing the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
During the same address, Parolin called for limits on the rapid development of artificial intelligence.
