Cathedral of Saint John Berchmans
Shreveport, LA
Cathedral of Saint John Berchmans is located in Shreveport, Louisiana. The parish traces its origins to 1902 when Jesuit Fathers established a school and parish in the city. In March 1902, Father John F. O’Connor, S.J., began construction on two frame buildings for the parish priests' residence, church, and school on Texas Avenue. The parish has since grown, preserving its history through various events and projects, including an archaeological dig that uncovered the foundations of the original church and college in 2017. A historical marker was placed at the site to commemorate this significant discovery.
