Syro-Malabar Church elects Thomas Animoottil auxiliary bishop of Kottayam

The Synod of the Syro-Malabar Church has elected Father Thomas Animoottil as auxiliary bishop of the Archeparchy of Kottayam. Pope Leo XIV had previously given his assent to the election. The appointment was made public on August 27.
