History
Pope Francis erected the Diocese of Coari (Latin: Dioecesis Coaritana) on 9 October 2013 as part of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manaus, based in Manaus, Brazil, with its seat in the city of Coari. From its elevation the see has been led by its first bishop, Marek Marian Piatek, C.Ss.R., a native of Poland and a member of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (the Redemptorists).
