Established 23 May 1910 as the Apostolic Prefecture of Tefe from the Diocese of Amazonas and elevated to a territorial prelature 11 August 1950; it is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Manaus. Its seat is the Catedral Prelaticia Santa Teresa.
