Latin Church diocese originally established in 1321 as the Diocese of Kyiv, suppressed in 1798 and restored in its current form on 25 November 1998. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Lviv; the seat is St. Sophia's Cathedral in Zhytomyr with the Co-Cathedral of St. Alexander in Kyiv.

History

A suffragan of the Latin Church in Ukraine, belonging to the ecclesiastical province of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Lviv of the Latins, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kyiv-Zhytomyr (Latin: Dioecesis Kioviensis-Zytomeriensis) has its cathedral episcopal see at St. Sophia's Cathedral, Zhytomyr. In Kyiv it also possesses the Co-Cathedral of St. Alexander and a former cathedral, now the Church of St. Nicholas.
