Briefing and sources: Pope Leo XIV Publishes Encyclical Magnifica Humanitas. Archdiocese of Beira

Pope Leo XIV published the encyclical Magnifica Humanitas.

Father Bonifácio Conde, a priest of the Diocese of Beira and a specialist in law and new technologies, stated that the document aligns with recent legislative efforts announced by Minister of Education and Culture Edson Macuácua in Maputo. Macuácua announced last Thursday plans to prepare legislation for the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in schools.

Father Conde advised that the new laws should prioritize the protection of the human person and the integrity of the educational community. He warned that irresponsible use of artificial intelligence could lead to dependency, manipulation, and exclusion. He recommended that lawmakers consult ethicists, educators, and civil society rather than only computer specialists, and cautioned against adopting laws from countries with different educational realities.
