Pope Leo XIV sends message for World Mission Sunday

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV sent a message for World Mission Sunday, inviting the faithful to support missionaries through prayer and practical aid. The 2026 celebration marks the 100th anniversary of the day, which was established by Pope Pius XI.

In his message, the Pope noted that his own experience as a missionary in Peru showed how assistance supports pastoral projects, church construction, education, and healthcare. He stated that prayers and concrete support help bring the Gospel to the poor and those in need.

The theme for this year is "One in Christ, united in mission." The day, held on October 18, serves as a time for the universal Church to pray for missionaries and collaborate with mission efforts.
