12 Things to Know Ahead of Pope Leo XIV’s Trip to France

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV will visit Paris, Lourdes, and Metz in France from Sept. 25 to 28 to meet with migrants, the sick, government officials, and young people. During the trip, the pope will discuss immigration, artificial intelligence, and the current state of the Catholic Church in France.

The visit begins on Sept. 25 when Pope Leo XIV presides over solemn vespers at Notre-Dame de Paris alongside priests, seminarians, and religious sisters and brothers. This marks the first papal liturgy held inside the cathedral since the 2019 fire that destroyed its spire and roof.

The pope is the third reigning pope to visit both Paris and Lourdes, following St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI. While Pope Francis visited several French cities, he did not visit Paris or Lourdes during his papacy. Pope Leo XIV is also scheduled to celebrate Mass at the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
