Pope Leo XIV meets with episcopal conference presidents and Oriental Catholic Church leaders

Pope Leo XIV met with presidents of episcopal conferences and leaders of Oriental Catholic Churches at the Vatican to discuss ways to share the Gospel with modern families. The meeting, titled "Ten Years After Amoris Laetitia: Announcing the Gospel with Families Today," marked a decade since the publication of the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia.

During his opening address, Pope Leo XIV encouraged participants to reflect on the lessons, successes, and difficulties encountered over the last ten years. He stated that the Church can learn from family experiences and emphasized the need to support people in their specific circumstances, particularly during times of fragility.

Participants addressed five main topics: the current reality of families, the marriage vocation of young people, the early years of marriage, complex family situations, and the mission of Christian families. Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, archbishop of Goa and Daman, spoke about family challenges in Asia, specifically in India. He noted that urbanization and migration have changed family compositions and moved communities away from their traditional roots.
