First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV called for a Europe firmly rooted in its Christian heritage during a speech in Metz on September 28, 2026. Speaking at a meeting titled "To the Roots of Europe for Peace and Unity," the pope described current human and state relations as increasingly barbaric.

The pope stated that discussions about Europe must include Christianity. He urged people to embrace the continent's historical roots, citing figures ranging from Saint Benedict to Robert Schuman. The speech served as the final stop of the pope's trip to France.
