Diocesan Caritas of Algarve to host conference on Magnifica humanitas encyclical

The Diocesan Caritas of Algarve will host a conference on the encyclical Magnifica humanitas today at 21h00 at the Saint Joseph Seminary in Faro. The event focuses on the subtheme "Technology changes. Human dignity remains" to examine how the papal document addresses contemporary social intervention.

Bishop Roberto Mariz, auxiliary bishop of Porto and president of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral of the Portuguese Episcopal Conference, will analyze the challenges technology poses to humanity. Bishop Vitorino Soares of Algarve will also participate.

Magnifica humanitas is the first encyclical of Pope Leo XIV, which he presented at the Vatican on May 25. The document addresses the protection of the human person in the era of artificial intelligence. It was symbolically signed on May 15 to mark the 135th anniversary of Pope Leo XIII's encyclical Rerum novarum.
