Pope Leo XIV celebrates Holy Mass in Lourdes

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Holy Mass at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes on September 27, 2026. During his visit to the sanctuary prairie, the Pope traveled in an open car to greet the faithful before preparing for the liturgy.

In his homily, the Pope addressed pilgrims from France and around the world, describing the gathering as the universal face of the Church. He encouraged those visiting the grotto to bring the consolation of Lourdes back to their families, neighbors, and the French people. He also noted that the Sunday Gospel readings reflect the message of conversion that the Virgin Mary entrusted to Saint Bernadette.

Following the Mass, Bishop Jean-Marc Micas of Tarbes and Lourdes spoke to the assembly. The Pope then led the faithful in the Angelus prayer before traveling to the bishop's residence for a private lunch.
