Pope Leo XIV met with the bishops of the Bishops' Conference of France at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes on September 27, 2026. Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline, president of the conference, welcomed the Pope at the Sainte-Bernadette amphitheatre before the group entered the auditorium for the meeting.

During his address, the Pope noted that the bishops chose the sanctuary, located near the grotto where the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette, to place the Church in France under the protection of the Mother of God. He stated that Mary serves as a guide to Jesus. Following the meeting and a presentation of a gift, the Pope greeted the bishops and traveled to the Prairie of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes to celebrate Holy Mass.
