Pope Leo XIV grants plenary indulgence on 100th World Mission Day

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV granted a plenary indulgence for the 100th anniversary of World Mission Day on October 18, 2026. The Apostolic Penitentiary issued a decree on October 13 to mark the centenary of the day, which was originally established by Pope Pius XI in 1926.

To obtain the indulgence, the faithful must participate in the Rosary organized by the Dicastery for Evangelization to pray for the spread of the Gospel. Those who are elderly, sick, or caregivers may join the prayer spiritually from their homes. The indulgence can also be applied for the souls in purgatory.

Other requirements include sacramental confession with sincere repentance, receiving Holy Communion, and praying for the intentions of the Pope. Participants must also maintain an interior detachment from all sin, including venial sin.
