Bishop Lucio Ruiz Speaks at Webinar on Digital Culture

Bishop Lucio Ruiz spoke to approximately 380 religious participants during a webinar on October 23, 2026, regarding digital culture and mission.

The former Secretary of the Dicastery for Communication described the digital continent as a distinct world with its own language and culture rather than a simple tool for communication. Ruiz told the participants that digital media serves as a space to encounter the younger generation. He stated that digital missionaries should engage in dialogue with young people to help them find meaning and direction in their digital lives.

Ruiz suggested that this environment requires a renewed approach to pastoral ministry, specifically to assist young people in discerning their vocations. He noted that the Church should reach people within the digital world so they can encounter the spirituality of religious communities. He concluded that digital mission involves translating the Gospel into contemporary cultural language to create new paths for evangelization.
