Bishop Raspanti presides over funeral of Cardinal Romeo

Bishop Antonino Raspanti presided over the funeral of Cardinal Paolo Romeo on Wednesday, October 28, at the Cathedral of Acireale. The former Archbishop of Palermo died recently at the age of 88.

During the homily, Bishop Raspanti spoke about the Christian meaning of death as a passage to new life through the resurrection of Christ. Following the liturgy, which was concelebrated by several bishops and priests, the assembly heard messages from Pope Leo XIV, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Sergio Mattarella.

Archbishop Corrado Lorefice of Palermo reflected on the ministry of Cardinal Romeo, noting his work in evangelization, his support for families and vocations, and his role in welcoming Pope Benedict XVI to the city. Archbishop Lorefice also highlighted the cardinal's efforts regarding the beatification process of Father Pino Puglisi, his support for Caritas, and his recognition of the testimony of Brother Biagio Conte.
