Bishop Tomaso Giannelli of Termoli remembered for his pastoral visits and reports

The Diocese of Termoli-Larino has released biographical notes regarding Tomaso Giannelli, who served as bishop of Termoli from 1753 to 1768.

Giannelli left extensive documentation through three pastoral visits, which are the first such records preserved for the diocese. These documents provide historical details about the Adriatic region. The bishop also sent five reports to Rome during his tenure. The late Biagio D’Agostino examined and published both the pastoral visits and the reports.

During Pentecost in 1756, Giannelli celebrated a synod, though the official acts of that meeting have not survived. He is also noted for the discovery of the remains of San Basso, the patron saint of Termoli, on January 1, 1761. In his final years, between 1766 and 1768, Giannelli wrote a manuscript regarding the history of Termoli and the diocese, which was published by the Termoli Lions Club in 1986.
