BVM Sisters Celebrate 15 Years of Partnership with Loretto Community at the UN

The Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) and the Loretto Community marked 15 years of partnership in advocacy at the United Nations.

The collaboration began more than 15 years ago during a Leadership Conference of Women Religious Region 10 meeting in St. Louis. Loretto President Cathy Mueller informed the BVM congregation that her community was seeking a partner to assist with its work advancing the rights of women and girls through advocacy at the United Nations. Loretto has maintained a presence at the United Nations since 1991.

The partnership, known as Loretto/BVM at the UN, combines the justice commitments of both communities in an international setting. BVM member Karen Conover and former BVM president Mary Ann Zollmann noted that the collaboration grew from a shared spirit to work together on common goals.
