Patriarch Nona discusses the Mass of Church Communion and the Chaldean Synod

Patriarch Mar Paulinus III Nona spoke about the importance of recent liturgical events for the Chaldean Church in Iraq and the diaspora following a series of gatherings at the Vatican.

On October 14, 2026, the Patriarch celebrated the Mass of Church Communion with Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagli, who represented Pope Leo XIV. The following morning, October 15, the Patriarch celebrated a Chaldean Mass at the altar of the Chair of Saint Peter in St. Peter's Basilica. Hundreds of Chaldean faithful traveled from Iraq and around the world to attend these liturgies in person, while thousands more watched via live broadcast.

The Patriarch also presided over the Chaldean Synod from October 16 to 19, 2026, alongside Chaldean bishops. In an interview, Nona explained that communion means being one in Christ and sharing a common faith despite differences in perspectives. He stated that communion requires members to respect the dignity of every person in the Church and to live in a way that reflects their unity in Christ.
