Catholic Priest in Nigeria Calls for Accountability from Politicians Ahead of General Elections

Father Boniface Neibo urged women in rural Nigerian communities to demand accountability from politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking during an election sensitization event for women in the Ushafa community of the Archdiocese of Abuja, Neibo said politicians frequently make promises to underserved areas during election cycles only to ignore them after winning office.

Neibo, who serves as the deputy director of the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace, noted that these communities continue to lack basic amenities such as clean water, reliable electricity, and functional public education systems. He encouraged women to move beyond political passivity and take active roles in the electoral process by reminding candidates of their previous commitments during campaigns.
