Diocese of Ibiza installs retablo for 20 martyred priests

The Diocese of Ibiza has begun installing a new altarpiece near the presbytery of the Cathedral of Ibiza to honor 20 martyred priests. The artwork commemorates the priests who were killed in 1936 for their faithfulness to Christ.

The altarpiece features paintings by artist Justo Navas and was designed and crafted by the Taller de Arte Religioso Salmerón. Bishop Vicent Ribas stated that the work serves as a collective tribute from the people of Ibiza and Formentera and provides a dignified space for the memory and veneration of the men.

The project was funded through a public collection and donations gathered during masses held in all diocesan parishes on September 12 and 13. The 20 priests are scheduled to be beatified on October 17.
