Pope Leo XIV addressed President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée Palace during his apostolic journey to France. Following an arrival at Orly airport where he was met by the presidential couple and the faithful, the Pope delivered a speech at the palace and at UNESCO.

During his remarks at the Elysée, the Pope stated that proper secularism does not mean excluding religion from public life. Matilde Latorre de Silva of Religión en Libertad noted that the Pope spoke about the person while addressing the President in a republic that identifies secularism as a core pillar.
