Pope Leo XIV praises Dorothy Day

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV included Dorothy Day in his May encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, naming her among those whose commitment helped make history more humane.

The Pope previously spoke of Day during a gathering of Jubilee pilgrims last November. He described her as a small but great American woman who took a stand because she saw that her country's development model failed to create opportunities for everyone. He noted that she understood the American dream was a nightmare for many and felt a Christian obligation to involve herself with workers, migrants, and those discarded by the economy.
