Fontiveros receives 5,000 pilgrims in the Sanjuanista Jubilee Year

Fontiveros has welcomed 5,000 pilgrims since December 2025, according to the Diocese of Ávila. The Sanjuanista Jubilee Year marks the third centenary of the canonization of Saint John of the Cross and the first centenary of his proclamation as a Doctor of the Church.

More than 4,000 of these visitors arrived as part of organized groups and pilgrimages, while individual visitors increased during the summer months. The Diocese of Ávila and the Junta de Castilla y León supported this turnout through a program to open various temples. This allowed pilgrims to visit the birthplace of Saint John of the Cross and the San Cipriano parish, where the saint was baptized.
