Bishop Jesús Rico García presides over delivery of Isabel la Católica medal to Santa Teresa de Jesús image

Bishop Jesús Rico García presided over a ceremony at the Basilica of the Santa in Ávila to present the Isabella the Catholic medal to the image of St. Teresa of Jesus. The award, granted by the Isabella the Catholic Commission in Valladolid, marked the beginning of religious activities for the feast of the city's patroness.

The event took place during the traditional novena and included the presence of Father Francisco Sánchez Oreja, the provincial of the Carmelites in Spain. Other attendees included the rector of the Catholic University of Ávila and members of local religious and cultural associations.

The religious celebrations for St. Teresa of Jesus continue through October 15. Scheduled events include a musical recital dedicated to St. Teresa and St. John of the Cross on October 10, and the Misa Rociera on October 12. On October 14, the bishop and the cathedral chapter will lead solemn Vespers at the Basilica before the image of the saint is moved to the Cathedral.
