Hội đồng Giám mục Việt Nam issues statement on Old Roman Catholic Church

The Office of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Vietnam issued a statement on October 22, 2026, regarding reports that Vu Minh Hung has been ordained as a bishop by the Old Roman Catholic Church.

The conference office stated that the Holy See confirmed no bishop named Vu Minh Hung was appointed by the Pope. The statement noted that the Old Roman Catholic Church is not in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church, and therefore the sacraments performed by this group are not recognized by the Catholic Church.

The conference advised the faithful to be cautious and to avoid participating in any liturgical or pastoral activities led by Hung. The office also requested prayers for the unity of the Church.
