Pope Leo XIV met with students from the universities of Notre Dame and Villanova on Saturday morning in the Paul VI Hall. The students traveled to Rome to play an inaugural collegiate basketball game scheduled for Sunday, November 1.

During the meeting, the Pope spoke about the potential of sports to influence academic communities and society. He noted that sports can teach values of cooperation and mutual sharing. He referenced his February 6, 2026, letter, "A Life in Abundance: On the Value of Sport," which describes sports as a way to promote fraternity, solidarity, and peace through the development of the human person.
