Pope Leo XIV met with members of the Provincial Assembly, catechumens, and neophytes at the Catholic Institute of Paris on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Archbishop of Paris Laurent Ulrich welcomed the Pope during the encounter at the academic institution.

The Pope noted a growing number of adults seeking Christian initiation sacraments despite living in a highly secularized society. He stated that this trend contradicts statistical analysis and should be met with pastoral compassion and responsibility rather than defeatism.

Pope Leo XIV encouraged the Church to act as a community in a state of initiation. He urged the ecclesial community to respond to these individuals with closeness and tenderness to address the spiritual needs of those returning to the faith.
