Pope Leo XIV gives catechesis on Sacrosanctum Concilium

Pope Leo XIV is conducting a series of catecheses on Sacrosanctum Concilium, the first document promulgated by the Second Vatican Council regarding the sacred liturgy.

The Pope explained that the liturgy is not merely a matter of reforming rites, but a way to deepen the connection between the Church and the mystery of Christ. He noted that Christ is present in the proclaimed Word, the sacraments, the ministers, the gathered community, and most especially in the Eucharist. According to the Pope, the liturgy provides the very life of Christ to the faithful.

The teaching addresses certain modern trends, such as treating the liturgy as a sociocultural spectacle or as a purely individual devotion disconnected from daily life. The Pope emphasized that the liturgy represents the Church in prayer and serves as the summit of all Church activity.
