Pope Leo XIV tells religious leaders to 'disarm hearts and words'

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV told religious leaders during an interreligious meeting in Metz that religious discourse must constantly aim to disarm hearts and words. Speaking at the Robert Schuman Congress Center, the pope stated that religious leaders bear a direct responsibility as guardians of their traditions to ensure their speech promotes peace.

The pope said that using the name of God to justify oppression or violence profanes that name. He added that nothing which harms human dignity can be claimed as true divine inspiration. During the meeting, which served as the first event of his final day in France, Pope Leo XIV also described dialogue as an art that the world urgently needs.
