León XIV insiste en Lourdes a quienes necesitan cuidados que «no sois un peso»

Pope Leo XIV told sick pilgrims and healthcare workers in Lourdes that those in need of care are not a burden but are a precious treasure to the Church. During a meeting at the Accueil Notre Dame assistance center, the Pope described the sick as the beating heart of humanity.

Addressing doctors, nurses, chaplains, and pastoral workers, the Pope stated that medicine must never serve programmed death. He argued that no one has the right to decide the fate of an embryo or an elderly person based on laboratory algorithms or technical criteria. He urged medical professionals to be passionate servants of life.

Bishop Jean-Marc Micas of Tarbes and Lourdes introduced the meeting by noting that illness should not be viewed as a humiliation or a loss of dignity. The Pope linked this defense of dignity to the Christian view that every human person is inherently dignified simply by existing.
