Leone XIV in Francia, ultima tappa a Metz: “Le religioni sono custodi della vita”

Pope Leo XIV met with leaders of various religious denominations at the Robert Schuman Congress Center in Metz on Monday to call for dialogue to promote peace and defend human life. During the meeting, which serves as the final stop of his trip to France, religious leaders read and signed the Appeal of Metz, a joint commitment to peace and social engagement.

The Pope described religions as guardians of life and urged people of faith to work together. He referenced Robert Schuman, the founder of the European idea, noting how Schuman turned old divisions into bridges of hope. Leo XIV also used the gathering to reiterate his opposition to euthanasia, following a recent law passed by Parliament. He previously stated during his visit to Lourdes that legal actions are not always moral, specifically addressing what he termed programmed deaths.
