Pope Leo XIV writes Magnifica Humanitas

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV issued his first encyclical, Magnifica humanitas, on May 15, 2026. The document addresses artificial intelligence and was released on the 135th anniversary of the encyclical Rerum novarum.

Ignacio del Villar reports that the text uses the concepts of Babel and Jerusalem to explore opposing realities. These references draw from Saint Augustine’s City of God, contrasting a city built on humility and love for God with a worldly city centered on selfishness and self-love.
