Pope Leo XIV celebrates Mass in Metz

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass at the Cathedral of St. Stephen in Metz on Sept. 28, marking the conclusion of a four-day pastoral visit to France. During his homily, the pope urged Europeans to pursue reconciliation and peace rather than revenge or retaliation. He told the congregation that seeking forgiveness and walking together are not signs of weakness, noting that the region has a history of being divided by conflict.

Thousands of people gathered in the streets of Metz to watch the pope pass in his popemobile. The mayor of Metz, Francois Grosdidier, met the pope and presented him with several gifts, including a wooden tennis racket. French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, attended the Mass.
