Mexican bishops present Pope Leo XIV with book on 132,000 missing persons

Bishop Ramón Castro Castro, president of the Mexican bishops' conference, delivered a 200-page book to Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Oct. 8. The book, titled “One Name, a Thousand Voices,” documents the cases of more than 132,000 people who have gone missing in Mexico amid an ongoing security crisis involving drug cartels.

The publication includes the names, photos, disappearance dates, and last known locations of 1,152 individuals. According to the book's introduction, the document serves as a witness to twenty years of violence that has impacted the country. The Mexican Church presented the work to the Pope to express a commitment to seeking justice, truth, and shared responsibility for those disappeared.
