Monsignor Robert Sarno speaks on saints

Monsignor Robert Sarno recently spoke on the theology of canonization during the second annual Saints on Their Way event at Seton Shrine. A retired priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn and former official of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, Sarno shared insights from his decades of work with canonization causes.

Sarno identified two primary reasons for looking to the saints. He stated that the saints serve as examples of imitation because they lived lives of heroic virtue despite facing many challenges. He also noted they serve as intercessors who bring petitions to God.

Sarno emphasized that saints are not perfect people. He cited Saint Padre Pio as an example, noting the saint was known to have a quick temper. He described holiness as something unique to each person, expressed through their specific vocation and where they live.
