History

Headquartered in Brooklyn, the Diocese of Brooklyn (Latin: Diœcesis Bruklyniensis) is a Catholic diocese in the state of New York whose territory takes in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. It stands as a suffragan in the province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of New York. The Cathedral Basilica of St. James in Downtown Brooklyn serves as the diocesan cathedral, with the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph in Prospect Heights as co-cathedral. Among United States dioceses it is one of the few made up of 100% urban territory. Robert J. Brennan is the bishop.
