The Archdiocese of New York, erected as a diocese in 1808 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1850, is the metropolitan see for the Province of New York. Ronald A. Hicks was installed as the 11th archbishop on February 6, 2026, succeeding Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

History

Within the State of New York, the Archdiocese of New York (Latin: Archidiœcesis Neo-Eboracensis) is a Latin Church archdiocese of the Catholic Church. Its territory takes in three boroughs of New York City, Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island, along with seven counties north of the city: Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester.
