CNBB publishes timeline of bishops' statements on politics and elections

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) has published a timeline detailing statements made by Brazilian bishops regarding politics and elections in recent years. The document highlights the Church's stance on democracy, citizenship, human dignity, and the responsibility of voting.

The CNBB stated that the Church does not support political parties or candidates. During the 2018 elections, the bishops released a message addressing democratic crisis, polarization, intolerance, violence, and the dissemination of fake news. In 2020, the bishops issued a message regarding municipal elections to address the buying and selling of votes. The timeline also includes a 2022 note condemning the use of religion as a tool for election campaigns.
