Holy See postpones ad limina visit of Nicaraguan bishops

The Holy See has postponed the ad limina visit of the Nicaraguan bishops due to a lack of appropriate conditions for the prelates, according to Bishop Carlos Enrique Herrera Gutiérrez.

Bishop Herrera, who serves as the president of the Nicaraguan Episcopal Conference and the bishop of Jinotega, stated that the visit is rescheduled for next year, though no specific date has been set. The ad limina apostolorum is a visit bishops make to the Vatican every five years to report on the status of their dioceses to various dicasteries, concluding with an audience with the pope.

Bishop Herrera has been in exile since November 2024 following his expulsion by the government of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. He met with Pope Leo XIV on October 12 during a meeting regarding the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia.
